A sandy liaison which generally connects an island to solid ground. It is formed or washed away by the currents. The Sainte-Marie tombolo is the result of the action of hydrodynamic marine factors. The swells which come from the open sea diffract on the exposed side of Sainte-Marie island and move the sediments (sand, gravel and pebbles) which gradually make their way to the protected side via the longshore drift.
The Saut du Gendarme Waterful is relatively small and surrounded by [...] pleasant, tropical vegetation. The Saut du Gendarme waterfall can be directly accessed from the road by which a small carpark has been built.
This location is splendid! But you have to deserve it! The path is quite difficult. But it's worth the detour as is the second waterfall!

In the enchanting setting of the oldest plantation in Martinique, you can now discover Martinique zoo! Located at Sainte Marie, it will reveal the secrets of this wonderful alcohol.Saint James's origines were at St Pierre de la Martinique in 1765, thanks to Reverend Father Edmond Lefebure, Superior of the Frères de la Charité convent and learned alchimist. In the greatest secrecy, this worthy cleric developed a white alcohol of unprecedented quality, a cane sugar brandy then called "Guildive" or "Tafia".

There is evidence of a sugar refinery in this location since the end of the 17th century.
