The Maison de la Canne was founded in 1987 within the walls of the old Vatable distillery. Over more than two centuries, it traces the history of the sugar economy, firstly within the framework of the slave estates, then from the middle of the 19th century, in central plants. Opening hours Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30am to 5:30pm Friday and Saturday from 8:30am to 5:00pm Sunday from 9:00am to 5:00pm There is a charge for entry but the last Saturday of the month, it is free Guided tours are available in French and in English, if booked in advance Group entry (50 people maximum) must be booked in advance A 25 minute documentary "La Route du Sucre" (The Sugar Road) is shown on request
