The Grand Marché de Fort-de-France, inaugurated in 1885, or Spice Market, is the largest market on the island. Under its metal and glass structure, a firework display or colours and aromas greets you: fruit and vegetables from all over Martinique: vanilla, all kinds of spices, chilis, bois bandé and rums are arranged. You will also find crafts as well as restaurants open at midday, which prepare typical Creole dishes: grilled fish, fritters, queen conches, crayfish, octopus, chicken colombo and more Do not leave without having bought a bakoua hat, a traditional Martiniquan had which will protect you from the sun's strong rays!
